Jakarta Post- 27 October 2008

Saturday's medal hunt went awry for Indonesia with only Oka Sulaksana winning gold in windsurfing.   Indonesia's collection of 22 gold medals penultimate day of the Asian Beach Games is impossible to catch, with the host being assured the title of overall champions. Indonesia has also bagged eight silvers and 19 bronzes for a medal total of 49.

President Susilo Bambang Yuhoyono hailed the achievement as a new beginning in sport for Indonesia and offered his appreciation to the athletes. "This is a new beginning. Don't be too satisfied. If we aren't too complacent, we can achieve more,"he told the athletes through a teleconference. He said the Games were a success. Organizers, however, cannot relax just yet, he added. "Don't get carried away. Be alert. We want to keep the situation secure, so our guests can remember this success."  Sunday's program offered another four fold medals in the beach volleyball, beach soccer, marathon swimming and triathlon. The other 13 sports have wound up their competitions at the Games, which featured 1,600 athletes from 43 countries. Thailand, which made the jet ski, windsurfing and sailing its gold mine, followed in distance second with a haul of nine golds. South Korea and China, Asian Games powerhouses, both bagged four golds. South Korea pipped China for third place on the overall medal tally because they had a larger collection of bronzes.Vietnam completed the top five teams with two golds.
